If you’d like to add a slice of your heritage to your wedding ceremony, you’re not alone. Millions of couples are embracing their ancestry and choosing to incorporate some of the best traditions from around the world in their ceremonies here at home. Here are some of the most interesting wedding traditions you might find if you attended a wedding in France, Italy or Spain. If you or your family are from one of these countries, why not try adding some phrases from your ancestor’s native tongue in your wedding vows for a truly memorable touch!

France

On the day of the wedding, it is customary for the French groom to meet the bride at her home and accompany her to the church. He then is walked down the aisle by his mother during the ceremony. After the ceremony, the couple walks on laurel leaves that have been strewn on the ground by well wishers. Fragrant flowers are also carried by the
bride in the belief that the scent will repel evil spirits.

Traditionally, guests to the wedding will bring small cakes and pile them on a table as they enter the church. The bride and groom kiss over the cakes to symbolize a fruitful life. On the wedding night, these same guests will stand outside banging on pots and pans until the groom invites them in for drinks.

Italy

The bride in an Italian wedding wears a veil over her face in order to hide it from evil spirits until the ceremony is over. It’s considered good luck for the groom to tear it at the conclusion of the ceremony. Evil spirits are also warded off by the groom carrying a piece of iron in his pocket.

At the beginning of the wedding reception, the best man serves sweet liquor or strong drinks to the wedding guests, who then toast the wedding couple with the words “cent’anni,” which means “for a hundred years.” There may be as many as 14 different entrees at an Italian wedding dinner, each with its own wine selection.

To help defray the costs of the lavish ceremony and to assist in the couple’s new lives together, the bride often carries a satin bag. Guests place envelopes of money in the bag, and male guests may buy dances with the bride by contributing to this fund.

Spain

Before the wedding ceremony in Spain, the groom will present the bride with 13 coins in a little bag, which she then carries to the ceremony. These coins represent his commitment to her. At the ceremony, she will wear orange blossoms in her hair to signify virginity and purity. The church is also often decorated with orange blossoms.

In stark contrast to most wedding traditions, in Spain it is customary for the bride to wear a black silk dress at her wedding. Her veil is also black, and intricately embroidered. The groom wears an embroidered shirt made for him by his bride-to-be.

At the reception after the ceremony, guests traditionally present the newlyweds a gift for their household. There is also a traditional dance, called the “sequidillas manchegas,” which the guests enjoy.

Fall wedding centerpieces are essential to finishing off your wedding reception decorations. With a little thought and creativity, you can come up with a fabulous centerpiece idea.

Fall is a great time to get married, especially if you are in a location that you can enjoy the colorful foliage that it brings. It is harvest time, the weather is cooling off and there are many fun options for centerpieces. It is also the perfect season for a wedding theme. Options include apple, wine, leaves and Fall flowers among others. Each of the ideas below can easily be paired with a theme.

In general your centerpieces should fit in seamlessly with the rest of your decorations. Things to consider when weighing your options include the décor of the reception space, the size of the tables, the wedding theme you chose, your wedding colors and your budget. You want your centerpieces to be the right size for your wedding reception. Having them too big or too small won’t look right.

Use your team of wedding vendors to bounce ideas off of. Your florist, wedding planner and reception space are great resources that should be used during your planning.

  • Flowers are usually the most popular choice for centerpieces, and Fall offers a few great choices. Mums are colorful and allow you to tie in your wedding colors with your decorations.

Other Fall flower choices include Hydrangea and Sunflower. Use these alone or in combination with other flowers like roses.

  • There are several things you can do with pumpkins. One option is to create a jack-o-lantern for each table. Or, have the table numbers carved into pumpkins, and place them at the center of each table.

Pumpkins can also be used along with flowers. For example, instead of using vases to hold the flowers, use a hollowed out pumpkin instead.

  • If you are serving wine at the reception, consider using the wine bottles as part of your centerpieces. This way they serve two purposes.

Another creative option would be to use a giant wedding glass to hold your flowers instead of a vase.

  • Apples can be used in your floral and other centerpiece displays. Candy apples are a fun way to combine your centerpieces and your wedding favors.

  • Pears are another Fall item that can be incorporated into your displays. Add them to floral displays, or use large vases to hold them along with other fruit.

  • Candles are another common popular choice. Use hurricane vases filled half way with coffee beans surrounding a pillar candle.

  • A Fall wedding wouldn’t be complete without leaves. Use color leaves that have fallen off of trees to decorate your tables and centerpieces.

Use the list above as a starting point in your search for Fall wedding centerpieces. There are many different paths you could take, but in the end you will know which one is right for your wedding.

Some Tips For Choosing the Perfect Wedding Invitations
By Shaunta Pleasant

There are many vital details associated with planning the perfect wedding, and it is all too easy to overlook the importance of the wedding invitations.

You do this at your peril, however, since these little pieces of paper have a vital role to play in the success of the celebration.

Without the wedding invitations you will not be able to accurately determine the number of guests you will be expecting, and that will make it harder to do everything from rent the reception hall to order the wedding cake.

The Many Options For Choosing Wedding Invitations

Brides and grooms have many options when it comes time to choose their invitations, from ordering their wedding invitations at the local print shop to choosing from the vast selection online.

Computer savvy couples can even choose to print their own unique customized invitations on their home computer, using their color printers to create some truly innovative designs.

Get Started As Early As Possible

No matter where the invitations are printed it is important to get started as early as possible.

Wedding deadlines have a way of sneaking up on us, and it can be difficult to get it all done in time. Since the invitations are such an integral part of planning the celebration it is important to get them out as early as possible.

This is even more of a concern if a large number of guests will be coming from out of town.

If many guests are expected from around the country it may be a good idea to reserve a block of hotel rooms for their stay in town, and in order to do that effectively you will need a good estimate of how many out of town guests to expect.

Until the invitations are sent out and the RSVP cards are received back you will not know that important number.

Do Not Under Estimate The Response Cards

When choosing the perfect wedding invitations don’t forget the importance of the response cards.

Providing guests a fast and easy way to respond to your invitation is essential, and any good wedding invitation should include a handy tear off RSVP card guests can use to say they will be attending your wedding celebration.

Make a Statement With the Perfect Spring Wedding Flowers
By Shaunta Pleasant

Spring weddings are all the rage, and those planning such a celebration have many wonderful spring wedding flowers to choose from.

No matter what the style and color scheme of the wedding there are plenty of beautiful spring flowers available to make it all perfect.

When Will You Find The Best Selection

As with all other aspects of planning the perfect wedding, however, it is important to start shopping as early as possible.

Starting the shopping early will help to ensure the best selection of beautiful spring blossoms when the big day finally rolls around. Shopping early will also give you plenty of time to choose the perfect florist to supply those spring wedding flowers.

Not all florists will be equally skilled when it comes to providing wedding flowers, and it may take some time to find the perfect one.

Using A Florist That Is Up To The Job

Any florist you choose should have plenty of experience providing spring wedding flowers for other brides.

e sure to ask to see pictures of previous wedding floral arrangements - any good florist will be more than happy to show off their past work. Get references as well, and check those references carefully.

Find out what previous clients liked about the service they received, and what they feel could have been done better.

This complete picture will help you to determine whether the florist you are considering is up to the job of supplying the spring wedding flowers that will make your wedding day so special.

The Floral Arrangement Of Your Choice

After you have chosen the perfect florist, the next step is to choose the perfect floral arrangements for your wedding.

It is important, of course, to choose the colors carefully, and it may be a good idea to bring along some color swatches from the wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses as you go shopping.

Taking digital photographs of the other decorations can also help the florist choose the perfect floral hues to compliment the church and reception hall.

Getting The Best Price

Last but not least, be sure that the price you are quoted for the spring wedding flowers includes not only the major arrangements placed at the church and reception hall but the smaller items as well.

Some florists will charge extra for the bridesmaids bouquets, the floral centerpieces and other items, so it is always a good idea to ask and to get everything in writing.

By working out the details well ahead of time you will be able to relax and enjoy your beautiful spring flowers on your special day.

Packing for Your Honeymoon by Tim A. Smith

A honeymoon is a holiday in which two newly weds will celebrate their marriage further. Honeymoons can be very enjoyable experiences and can be a big stress reliever. Contrary to popular belief, getting married can be quite a stressful process in terms of planning and preparing, even nerves can get to some people, that is why it is important that a honeymoon follows with no problems at all. Holidays are supposed to be stress free, but there can often be last minute panics and the most common is when the newly weds have not packed or have left out a particular item. Stress is the last thing you want as a newly wed couple, every situation is different of course, but it is best to be sure that nothing will go wrong.

When packing there are some very important things you should try your best to avoid. Problems are often experienced when packing for your honeymoon hours before your flight is due and when there is pressure, stress will often follow. If you’re due to catch a train, don’t leave it until last minute to pack. You should always try to pack when you have plenty of time to think so that you make sure that you don’t forget any essential items. A good tip is to sit down with your partner a few weeks beforehand and make a list of all the items you will require for your honeymoon. Once you have created a list you can prepare in advance and make sure that you avoid any of the common problems that people will face before embarking on their honeymoon.

So when is it best to pack? Of course, the best time to pack is a few days beforehand. Packing too early can never be a bad thing but of course you always have to remember to include every item you are going to need beforehand. If you waste your time packing last minute just after the wedding hours before your due to catch your flight you are a lot more likely to forget the essential items that you need such as your tickets. It has been seen before and it has turned what should be an enjoyable day into a nightmare. So instead of worrying last minute, plan beforehand to ensure that you wake up to a stress free day.

When going on your honeymoon there is not a set standard of items you must take on holiday with you but of course you should bring the bare essentials that you would typically take on a holiday. But the main thing you need to remember is that your honeymoon should be an enjoyable experience, so if you can afford to you should try and bring plenty of money so you can easily splash out once you are at your destination. It also depends on how long you are going for, and this is where planning beforehand becomes essential.

So when going on your honeymoon, try and be organized, book in advance, pack in advance and don’t leave anything until the last minute because you will regret it. When there is pressure it can often lead to stress, which is exactly what you don’t want. Of course, every situation is different, you may be going on your honeymoon weeks after you get married, but its always advisable to prepare way in advance. To some people this may seem quite obvious but you would be surprised as to how disorganized people can be, especially when there is a wedding to plan. Enjoy your honeymoon, follow the advice given and don’t let anything stop your honeymoon being one of the most memorable experiences of your life.
